Mike LaPlante named new Vice President of Advancement

Western Colorado University is proud to welcome Mike LaPlante, who is joining the community as Vice President of Advancement. In his new role, LaPlante will be located and primarily focused on the Front Range.

“Mike is a seasoned fundraising veteran with experience at all levels of the process—and we are thrilled to have him on the team,” said President Greg Salsbury, Ph.D. “We look forward to the momentum he can add to a number of Western’s initiatives.”

Prior to joining Western Colorado University, LaPlante spent the past 25 years working in higher education development, serving in various capacities at a number of respected institutions. Most recently, he held a variety of positions at Colorado State University. As Associate Athletic Director, he tripled the size of his team and launched their first capital campaign. As Associate Vice President of Advancement, he oversaw the successful completion of the State Your Purpose campaign, reaching the $1 billion goal 21 months early.

At Western Colorado University, LaPlante will work closely with the foundation, alumni and other groups to encourage growth and reach new levels of fundraising excellence.

“This is a defining moment for Western,” LaPlante said. “I look forward to connecting with our alumni and friends across the state and around the country to encourage their involvement in helping build a bright future for Western.”
