TLC Pathways

The TLC Pathways engagement model organizes programming into clear, year-long pathways while preserving flexible, drop-in access. Educators can participate at the level that fits their schedule while also having the option to pursue a more sustained focus and earn a formal distinction.

Teaching Resource Library

The TLC offers a curated a collection of practical tips, strategies, and evidence-based models to address common teaching challenges. Grounded in the scholarship of teaching and learning, these resources showcase innovative practices of educators at Western and beyond.

Additionally, Western educators have access to a wealth of teaching development resources through the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE). ACUE offers the only nationally recognized Effective Teaching certification, endorsed by the American Council on Education (ACE), supported by a vibrant online community of practice focused on advancing teaching excellence.

Professional Activity Fund

The Professional Activity Fund (PAF) supports faculty in their research, artistic endeavors, grant writing, and other funding priorities.

We hold three award rounds each year. Deadlines, forms, and submission links for all three rounds can be found on the PAF website on Inside Western.

SOURCE

SOURCE Grants support undergraduate research, scholarly work, creative projects, and academic travel at Western. With the support of a faculty mentor, students may apply for funding to support original projects, present their work, conduct research, or participate in professional learning opportunities beyond the classroom. SOURCE funding is available across all academic disciplines and is intended to help students expand, complete, and share meaningful academic and creative work.

Celebration of Academic Inquiry

Celebration of Academic Inquiry is three days of dynamic events that celebrate student scholarship across disciplines. The Teaching and Learning Center collaborates with parties across campus to plan events that include student expos, a poster session, performances, and more—all highlighting the impressive work of our scholars and creatives.

New Faculty Experience

Being new to any job can be disorienting. It’s our goal to provide community, alongside friendly, useful, just-in-time support as you get the lay of the land. The New Faculty Experience includes a 2-day orientation in August, followed by targeted support through your whole first year.
