Therapeutic Mentoring

Support youth through culturally-responsive approaches.

The 12-credit Therapeutic Mentoring Certificate prepares individuals to enter the behavioral health field by building foundational skills in mental health theory, research, and practice. Designed to expand access to care—especially in underserved communities—this program equips mentors to support youth through strengths-based, culturally responsive, and developmentally appropriate approaches. By fostering early engagement, trust, and continuity of care, therapeutic mentoring serves as a critical bridge between young people and traditional mental health systems.

What to Expect

Therapeutic Mentoring Certificate

In this certificate, students develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to effectively support youth experiencing mental health challenges. Coursework emphasizes applied learning in evidence-based mentoring practices, cultural responsiveness, and psychological well-being. Students explore how to reduce mental health symptoms while promoting resilience and positive development in youth.

This flexible certificate can be completed as a stand-alone credential for those with a bachelor’s degree or as a stepping stone toward the Master of Behavioral Science in Community Counseling, allowing students to build toward advanced clinical training.
