Biography

How did you discover Western?

I discovered Western Colorado University after searching the country for beautiful and exciting places to live and work. My wife and I were looking to relocate from Indiana to Colorado, seeking professional growth and a change in lifestyle. Western appealed to us due to its combination of professional opportunities and small-town charm. The university’s location in Gunnison perfectly aligned with our personal and professional goals, and we could not be happier with our decision so far!

What are some of the highlights of your career?

During my tenure in student affairs, I had the privilege of collaborating with leading experts in the curricular model of Student Affairs. My contributions were recognized when I received the Residential Learning Coordinator of the Year Award at Ball State University, a significant achievement in my sole year as a full-time professional there. I successfully mentored numerous students and Resident Assistants throughout my role, helping them progress toward their career aspirations. My advocacy for my students and employees has also been a professional highlight and joy. I now intend to continue to mentor and invest in students here at Western.

What excites you most about your field?

Residence life resonates with me due to its multifaceted impact. It offers daily interactions with students, allowing me to foster their development as leaders and community members. Being immersed in the student community provides a unique perspective on their experiences. I have the privilege of guiding and supporting students through pivotal moments in their lives, contributing to the growth of the next generation. This role also facilitates my own personal and professional growth, often challenging me in unforeseen ways. Through my interactions with students, I continually learn and refine my skills as a mentor and leader, making it a mutually enriching experience.

What is your favorite thing about the Gunnison Valley?

What I love most about the Gunnison Valley is how peaceful and quiet the mornings are. The hiking trails are fantastic, and there’s always something new to see. Everyone has also been very kind and welcoming in my time here so far. The community already feels like home, even though we’re new to the area. I am also blessed to work with some exceptional people.
