Program Activities

Bike Commando Run
Campers complete a guided bike route from the hut zone into town and return with a pre-arranged shuttle.

Hiking Objectives
A summit hike on Wingle Ridge for an excellent view of Mount of the Holy Cross and perspectives toward Shrine Mountain, the central Gore Range peaks to the north, the Tenmile Range to the east, and broad West Slope terrain to the west.

Additional Learning
Route planning, LNT ethics, and STEAM lessons in mountain history and ecology connected to the 10th-12th-grade cohort.

Camp Gunnison is a federal-permitted expedition that introduces younger campers to fishing, high-country hiking, star gazing, horseback riding, and possibly a guided rafting day while building teamwork and outdoor responsibility. The program is based out of established group campsites near Gunnison and includes daily instruction with local educators and guides.

Base Camping
Group camping at permitted sites in the Gunnison area is designed to host twenty-four campers with easy access to water and trailheads.

Program Activities
Guided fishing sessions focused on ethics and technique.
Day hikes in the surrounding mountain terrain plus evening stargazing programs.
Horseback riding with licensed local outfitters.
Optional rafting day with professional guides pending final permit and conditions.
STEAM learning is tied to river health, maps, and Western community values.

Add-Ons: Airport Pick Up: Sunday at 1 pm and 3 pm ($25 fee) / Airport Drop Off: Friday at 4 pm ($25 fee)

Registration Site

Most camps close two weeks before the start date or as soon as all seats are filled.

Campers are welcome to register for multiple weeks if the grade ranges match and space is available.

Refunds are offered on a sliding scale based on how early you notify us before camp begins.

Camp Days: Sunday afternoon – Friday
Times: Sunday at 1:30pm – Friday at 4pm

Airport Pick Up: Sunday at 1pm (additional fee)
Airport Drop Off: Friday at 2pm (additional fee)

If a camper is being dropped off/picked up at camp by a parent/guardian, the parent/guardian must sign their child in and out of camp. Only authorized persons will be able to pick up/sign a child out of camp. Photo IDs are required for all persons picking up/signing a child out of camp to ensure the safety of the campers. If a camper will be arriving at or departing from camp by airplane, personal vehicle, or any other means, parents or guardians must indicate this during registration and provide consent for their child to sign themselves in and out of camp.

Only adults listed on your registration form may pick up campers and staff will verify ID.

JMC Huts and Expedition Camp program staff ratio is 1:8 to allow for each camper to receives a high level of individualized attention and instruction.
