International Students

To apply as a first-year student, you must send us your official high school or secondary school transcript. This document lists your classes and grades.

Make sure your transcript:

• Is in English
• Comes directly from your school (either by mail or email to admissions@western.edu)
• Has your school’s official seal or certified copy

If you send your transcript by email or fax, it does not count as official.

If you’ve taken any college or university classes, check out the “Transfer Student” section. You’ll only need to send your high school transcript if you’ve completed less than 24 U.S. credit hours of college-level coursework.

If you’re applying as a transfer student, you must send official transcripts from every college or university you’ve attended.

You must include a certified English translation if your transcripts are in a language other than English.
Each transcript must:

• Be an original copy or a certified copy

• Include the school’s official seal and signature

If you’ve taken classes outside the U.S., your transcripts must go through a course-by-course evaluation from a credential evaluation service that is a member of NACES or AACRAO (www.aacrao.org).

If English is not your first language, you’ll need to show you can speak, read, and write English well enough for university-level work.

You can do this by submitting one of these test scores:

• TOEFL iBT: 79 or higher

• IELTS: 6.0 or higher

• Duolingo English Test: 105 or higher

Even if you meet the English requirement, we’ll still review your full application to make sure you’re ready for university-level studies.
