Frequently Asked Questions

Continuing students must schedule an advising appointment with your assigned advisor to retrieve your Registration Code, then self-register on your Workday account. New students may follow the instructions indicated in the email sent by the Registration & Advising Services for your student type.

You may check your schedule online anytime, anywhere. Remember to check/print a copy of your schedule to assure its accuracy before classes begin and before major deadlines.

To view your schedule, log on to your student account and go to “Student,” “Registration,” then “Student Schedule by Day and Time,” for your daily schedule. “Student Detail Schedule” will list instructors.  Courses that are held online with no specific meeting time will appear at the bottom of the “Student Schedule by Day and Time.”

Before your first year at Western, you will be assigned a professional advisor through Registration & Advising Services. They will help create your first semester schedule and set you up for success!

Dropping a Class:

1. You can drop a class through your Workday account during the first 15 percent of the class meetings. For deadlines, see the Registration and Advising Services Office 
2. A dropped class doesn’t show up on your transcript and doesn’t impact your GPA.
3. A dropped class means that you will not be charged tuition and fees for those credits.

Withdrawing from a class:

1. After the drop period, and until two-thirds of the class is complete, you can withdraw from a class with approval from the instructor and your advisor. You must complete the Course Withdrawal form (located in the Registration and Advising Services Office) and return it to 300 Taylor Hall, for processing. 2. A withdrawn class will receive a grade of “W,” but the grade doesn’t impact your GPA.
3. A withdrawn class means that you will still be charged tuition and fees for those credits.

If a class is closed, or requires instructor permission, you need to contact the instructor for permission to register. Once the instructor electronically records the permission, you can add the class through your Workday account. Full-term courses can be added with electronic instructor permission until the drop deadline.  After the drop deadline, a paper form is required.  Shorter term courses require a paper form after the add deadline.

If you are a continuing student at Western and take coursework for credit at another institution, or if you want to return to Western after taking classes at another institution, you need to have official transcripts sent to Western to be evaluated.

If you know in advance you will take credits at another institution, you can fill out a Transfer Pre-Approval form, available in the Registration and Advising Services Office.

Current students may access grades by logging into your Workday account. Former students who no longer have access to Workday will need to order a transcript to view grades.

Official Transcript

• Issued by the institution in a secure, certified format.
• Sent directly to the requesting party (e.g., another university, employer, licensing board).
• Often includes security features like a seal, signature, or watermark to verify authenticity.
• Typically required for formal processes such as admissions, employment verification, or credential evaluations.

Unofficial Transcript

• Issued to the student for personal use.
• May be a digital copy or printout without security features.
• Useful for reference, planning courses, or informal sharing, but not accepted for official purposes.

Ordering Process

Official transcripts must be ordered online through Parchment. Requests submitted will be received for processing on the next business day. Please allow 2-3 business days for processing.

• Follow the online instructions and submit payment information. Payment must be made by credit/debit card.

Unofficial Transcripts

• Current Students: Download your unofficial transcript anytime through your Workday account.
• Former Students: Order an unofficial transcript online through Parchment, and have it sent directly to you.

**Please note that transcript ordering is shut down at the end of each term during grade processing. Parchment will reflect ordering closures.
