Financial Aid Policies

Learn about our financial aid policies.

For information about financial aid policies, including adjustments to financial aid, refunds, rights and responsibilities, codes of conduct, and more, please see below. If you have any questions about financial aid, please get in touch with finaid@western.edu.

Adjustments to Financial Aid

We do our best to make any necessary adjustments before a refund is issued. However, there are situations where changes must be made afterward. Please read the information below to understand what actions might create a balance due.

Satisfactory Academic Process (SAP)

Western’s SAP policy follows Federal Department of Education guidelines and applies consistently across all majors. Students are evaluated on both GPA (qualitative) and pace of completion (quantitative) standards.

Return to Title IV Funds and Refund Policy

If you have questions about how withdrawing affects your financial aid, contact the Office of Financial Aid. We can provide an estimated R2T4 calculation to help you plan.

Scholarship Policies

Western Colorado University offers scholarships and tuition discounts to degree-seeking undergraduates, funded by alumni, private donors, government sources, and the university itself. Merit scholarships, WUE, and Central Plains discounts are only available to students pursuing their first undergraduate degree.

Note: Policies, amounts, and requirements can change without notice.

Student Rights & Responsibilities

The Western Student Financial Services office is dedicated to providing outstanding customer service to our students and their families with the appropriate level of professionalism and commitment to ethical standards.

Campus Policies and Student Right to Know
