Center for Disability & Accommodations

Welcome!

The CDA recognizes that parents and family members are an important part of a student’s support system. Transitioning from high school to college can bring new responsibilities for both students and families. We are committed to supporting students while helping families understand the accommodation process and how they can encourage their student to take ownership of their success.

Understanding Your Student’s Privacy

When students enroll at Western Colorado University, they gain rights under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). This means that disability-related information, accommodation requests, and academic records belong to the student. Unless a student has provided written authorization through a FERPA release, the CDA cannot discuss their disability, accommodations, or case details with parents or family members. We are always happy to answer general questions about our policies, procedures, and available resources.
