Academic Standing Categories

Good Standing
Academic Alert
Academic Warning
Academic Probation
Academic Suspension

Academic Good Standing

  • You have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • You’re in good academic shape and eligible for all university privileges.

Academic Alert

  • Your cumulative or semester GPA is between 2.0 and 2.29.
  • This is an early warning—check in with your academic advisor for support.
  • This status isn’t recorded on your transcript.

Academic Warning

  • Your semester GPA drops below 2.0, but your cumulative GPA stays at or above 2.0.
  • This is another early warning and doesn’t appear on your transcript.
  • Reach out to academic support resources to get back on track.

Academic Probation

  • Both your cumulative and semester GPAs are below 2.0.
  • You have two semesters to raise your cumulative GPA to 2.0 or higher.
  • You must complete the Turning Point Program within the first 10 days of the next semester.
  • If your GPA doesn’t improve, you may be suspended.

Academic Suspension

  • You’re placed on suspension if you fail to earn a semester GPA of 2.0 or higher while on probation.
  • You’ll be suspended from Western for at least one full year.
  • You may appeal for readmission after showing academic progress elsewhere.
