Western’s Kevin J. Anderson Co-Produces HBO Max’s Dune: Prophecy

BY SETH MENSING  |  University Communications Manager

Author Kevin J. Anderson is a master of the fantasy realm, with dozens of best-selling novels and a box office hit to his credit. Now, the Director of Western’s Publishing Concentration is following up on his most recent box-office success with another installment in the famed Dune series: HBO Max’s Dune: Prophecy.

Based on Anderson’s acclaimed novel Sisterhood of Dune, co-written with Brian Herbert, the show comes on the heels of the international smash hit Dune: Part Two, which Anderson co-produced with Herbert, son of the saga’s originator, Frank Herbert.

“Now that I have seen the first episode,” Anderson said, “I’m delighted to see the story and characters come to life.”

The series expands on the Dune saga, focusing on the origins of the Bene Gesserit sisterhood and exploring the forces of power, legacy, and human resilience—themes of the franchise that have resonated with fans for decades. The novel and subsequent HBO series prove that Anderson is a master in crafting immersive narratives and an unparalleled resource for students pursuing a career in publishing.

“Kevin’s contribution to the Dune universe reflects the caliber of talent and creativity we have at Western,” Western’s President Brad Baca said. “We are thrilled to see one of our own making such a significant impact in literature and entertainment.”

As a leading voice in fantasy fiction, Anderson has authored or co-authored over 170 books, more than 50 of which have appeared on national or international bestseller lists. His experience offers an incredible opportunity to students in Western’s Graduate Program in Creative Writing, where he mentors the next generation of storytellers and publishing professionals.
