Western Director Appointed to State Council

Sherry Ford

A Western Colorado University director has been chosen to serve on a state advisory board.

Western’s Sherry Ford, director of Business Services, Procurement Operations, was elected by her peers to the State of Colorado’s Procurement Advisory Council Executive Committee. She joins the board of eight members for a three-year term.

The committee is a group of elected members from state agencies and institutions of higher education, that advises Colorado’s Chief Procurement Officer.

Effective Procurement and Supply Functions

The members seek to improve the quality of the state’s process by striving for more effective procurement and supply functions. The council looks to attain greater efficiency and economy in state administration, and researches and recommends improvements to state procurement, laws, and rules. Members also participate in the review and development of procedures for state procurement programs to develop and promote standards.

“This is a once in a lifetime achievement and an honor to be on such a council,” Ford said.

A Western Alumna

Ford has a unique background—she came to Western as a non-traditional student following the Great Recession. She graduated in May 2013 with two Bachelors of Arts degrees, Sociology with an emphasis Criminal Justice, and Political Science, with an emphasis in Pre-Law. Ford began her Western career as purchasing assistant, before becoming a contract administrator. As the director of Business Services, she supervises the university’s contracts, procurement, student risk management, University Center operations, bookstore and the mail center.

Serving Western

Ford has been elected by her peers as the chair of the Mid-Managers Council at Western for the past three years. The Mid-Managers Council includes managers, directors and assistant vice presidents, providing student services.
