Wilderness Pursuits is home to low cost gear rentals, a self-serve Tune and Bike Shop (and we host free clinics to help you get the most out of our space), and Wilderness Based Orientation. Many of our members are also active participants on the Western Mountain Rescue Team.
Mission Statement
(WP) provides fun, affordable and professional co-curricular outdoor expeditions and resources for students. WP’s trips are student led and are designed to meet the needs of a broad range of abilities and interests while developing outdoor skills and fostering community, citizenry, environmental stewardship and healthy living.
WP is an equal opportunity service provider operating under BLM and USFS Special Use Permits in Colorado and Utah.
Tune and Bike Shop
We offer affordable basic mountain bike and ski/board maintenance clinics throughout each academic year to teach you how to service your own equipment. Students are then allowed to rent free toolkits and will have access to our Tune Shop during business hours.

WP Gear Rentals
Visit the Wilderness Pursuits office in the University Center for affordable gear rentals. Please allow 30-45 minutes for gear checkout and return of whitewater equipment. Call to check availability and make reservations on all equipment.

Mountain Rescue Team
The Western Mountain Rescue Team, under the jurisdiction of the Gunnison County Sheriff’s Office, strives to provide exemplary mountain rescue services and life-saving mountain safety education free of charge to the County of Gunnison, State of Colorado, and anywhere they may be needed.
