Biography
How did you discover Western?
I fell in love with Colorado at a young age (I swear the mountains have been my destiny all along!), but didn’t live here full-time until spring of 2023. Since then, I’ve fully immersed myself in the Colorado lifestyle: hiking, camping, city days in Denver, and all the outdoorsy things! I have also found an incredibly inclusive community in Colorado. Finding Western, I learned that it embodies all the values and lifestyle choices that are already important to me, with a focus on higher education in a location that can’t be beat. The true college campus feel, the charming small town (and nearby mountain towns), and the great people sold me on this special university.
What are some of the highlights of your career?
I am most proud of my time teaching and mentoring students who have historically been underserved and overlooked. A specific highlight was creating an original documentary (including scripting, producing, and editing it!) for a justice-focused program that served inner-city high schools. That was a legacy project. I was honored to create a lasting media piece to showcase the program, it’s amazing teachers, and of course, the incredible students.
What excites you most about your field?
I am excited about working with students who are looking to take the next, and big, step to go to college!
What is your favorite thing about the Gunnison Valley?
Crested Butte has stolen my heart! The charming small town tucked into the mountains with incredible views, kind people, and lots to do outside is only 30 mins from Western and a great little escape. I also camped in Taylor Park for the first time this summer and it was memorable.
