Biography
How did you discover Western?
I learned about Western through a friend that completed his undergraduate degree at Western. A few years later during a backcountry ski trip, I was able to visit Gunnison for the first time and fell in love with the area and the small-town vibe.
What are some of the highlights of your career?
The biggest highlight of my career was winning the “Circle of Distinction” award, which is the most prestigious award within the Global Customer Support organization at Oracle. It recognizes, promotes, and invests in employees that exhibit exceptional performance and behaviors that reinforces or furthers the organization’s goals. As part of the award, I was given the opportunity to travel to Bucharest, Romania to work with some of my colleagues to experience their culture and working environment. After that I was able to take a 3-week vacation to run, hike, climb and see the wonderful country and culture of Romania.
What most excites you about your field?
Data is the backbone for most of the software we use, and it is really interesting to see why things are done the way they are done and how different fields and software work with data. There are a ton of new trends in the field of data like artificial intelligence (natural language processing and predictive analytics), the cloud (Cloud BI) and mobility that make me excited about the field of computer science and data especially as data becomes more complex, diverse, and bigger.
What is your favorite thing about the Gunnison Valley?
The community and the location. I love to backcountry ski, run, climb, hike, mountain bike, and get outside as much as possible with my dog and the access here is incredible.
