The Western Colorado University Energy Management community gathered at the Homestead Golf Course in Lakewood, Colorado, where players teed off for a great cause. The annual tournament raised funds dedicated entirely to providing student support and resources, ensuring our Mountaineers have the tools they need. Golfers enjoyed a day on the green, proving that golf is a great tool for creating educational and networking opportunities.
“The golf tournament has always been a great event to expand students’ professional development and web of connections. This year, I was able to connect with many influential professionals in the energy industry and was fortunate enough to receive the Kitty Hasche Outstanding Student Award”
– John “Jack” Williams, Energy Management Class of 2027.
Networking and Real-life Practice
A highlight of the golf tournament is the emphasis on professional networking in the fast-evolving energy industry. In a sector where collaboration and personal connections drive innovation, our Energy Management students have an invaluable opportunity to interact directly with industry professionals and executives. These face-to-face conversations, on and off the course, help open doors for students to gain mentorship, internships, and career growth opportunities.
Awards were celebrated over a networking lunch and presented by our very own Energy Management students. Despite a perfectly timed rainstorm, which moved the group inside, the crowd remained lighthearted and engaged throughout the ceremony, showing that the Energy Management community is excited to continue supporting the program.
Celebrating our Outstanding Industry Partners
Western also celebrated two pillars of our community. Jim Peay received the Outstanding Industry Partner Award for his invaluable contributions to the program and our students. Without Jim, the program would not be where it is today. Antero Resources was also recognized with our Outstanding Corporate Sponsor Award for their remarkable dedication to supporting Western and the Energy Management Program. Sponsors like Antero Resources are vital to making events like the golf tournament possible and to giving students more opportunities to connect with the industry. Additional awards were given to Justin Deschene (’12) for being the Outstanding Golf Committee Member; his tireless work and organization kept this year’s tournament planning on track. Students John “Jack” Williams (’27) and Luke Riters (’27) were recognized as Outstanding Students; both have shown true passion and dedication to their education and future career pathways.
We extend our deepest gratitude to all our incredible sponsors, players, students, and the broader energy industry community. We would not be able to move forward without all of you who keep showing up, giving back, and actively investing in the success of the Western Energy Management Program. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year for the 14th Annual Energy Management Golf Tournament in 2027!
