Clubs at Western: many in number, open to all

Do you find yourself looking into the horizon in search of yourself? Do you have free time set aside that you wish included something more? If you answered yes to either of these questions, it may just be time for you to consider joining a club.

Western has a grand total of 37 clubs for all students to contemplate joining, with religion, culture, gaming, fishing and dancing being just a few of the focuses they offer. To join, all you need to do is drop in on a club meeting and introduce yourself and you may find yourself with new friends and maybe a new passion.

Each club is unique and inclusive. For students looking to join a club who can’t seem to find a good fit, Western director of student health & wellness Scott Cantril is a good resource to help students find their crew on campus.

A handful of freshmen at Dolores Hall recently shed light on the club experience and why being a part of it is so great.

“My experience in the Western Mountain Bike Team has been absolutely phenomenal. The coaches are some of the nicest and most supportive people I’ve ever met, and I’ve improved as a rider immensely. All in all, an epic season,” said Ezekiel Cramer.

Clubs even provide an opportunity to gain work experience.

“The Gunnison Sockeyes always give to the community, and our volunteers have worked with Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the U.S. Forest Service. Those volunteer hours lead to careers down the road,” said Evan Hammans, executive board member of the Gunnison Sockeyes, Western’s fly-fishing club.

Consider joining a club today so you can find your calling and benefit yourself and others with your presence.
