Western announces partnership with Rocky Vista University

RVU is one of two medical schools in the state, the other being University of Colorado.

Under the Early Acceptance Program, Western juniors will be able to apply for provisional acceptance to RVU—without needing to take the MCAT.

Applications are due Nov. 1, after which Western designees will conduct a preliminary round of interviews. Their suggested candidates are then sent to RVU for final decisions.

To be considered for the Early Acceptance Program, students must meet several criteria, including:

  • A science GPA of at least 3.4
  • Shadowing a physician
  • Completing certain Biology, Chemistry and English credits
  • Demonstrating leadership and service commitments

Once accepted, students will be assigned an RVU student mentor and will visit campus, sitting in on classes and taking a study skills assessment. They also have the option of participating in RVU medical service trips—among other community service opportunities.

To remain in the Early Acceptance Program, students must:

  • Meet with Western’s health professions advisor at the end of each semester
  • Maintain a science GPA of at least 3.4
  • Not receive any disciplinary action
  • Submit an AACOMAS application designating only RVU before Jan. 1 of their graduation year
  • Submit a deposit of $2,000 before Jan. 1 of their graduation year
