Our living options are designed to keep you close to everything campus has to offer. Choose from a variety of residences, each offering comfortable spaces to study, relax, and connect with friends. With classes, dining, recreation, academic resources, and even a trail system just steps away, you’ll feel fully connected to life at Western. And as a bonus, you’ll enjoy stunning panoramic views of the West Elk, San Juan, and Sawatch mountain ranges.

Housing for First-Year Students

Escalante Complex

Escalante Complex

The Escalante Complex is located at the top of campus and includes Dolores, Colorado, Tomichi, and Crystal Halls. This coed space offers community-style living for approximately 320 students. The facilities include laundry, floor lounges, Esports, and ICELab (a creative space for entrepreneurs), and they have the highest views on campus.

Ute Hall

In 1931, Ute Hall became the second building and the first residence hall built on Western’s campus. This traditional-style residence hall is a coed space for 132 students. Honors Program students have the option to live in Ute Hall. The recently renovated facilities include a computer lab, laundry, FreeCycle (free campus thrift shop), and two large lounges.

Mears Complex

Mears Complex comprises Mears Hall, Moffat Hall, and Robidoux Hall. This coed space houses approximately 400 students and offers suite-style living for returning undergraduates and transfers. Western’s gender-inclusive community is also home to the Mears Complex. Facilities include a community kitchen, laundry, a lounge, and a computer lab.

Chipeta Apartments

The Chipeta Apartments are designated for older returning undergraduates and graduate students. Located on the southwest corner of campus, the apartment complex is home to 120 students and Western’s campus garden. Additional facilities include a computer lab, floor lounges, and laundry.

Pinnacles Apartments

Pinnacles Apartments are designed for older students and returning undergraduates. Located on the western edge of campus, Pinnacles is home to 220 students and features a greenhouse and a fire pit. In addition to living quarters, the facilities include laundry, a computer lab, study rooms, and common area lounges. Western’s on-campus food pantry, the Mountaineer Marketplace, is also located in the apartment building.
