Team 1: PROVUU
PROVUU is a smart ski goggle prototype designed to improve safety and visibility on the mountain. Building on last year’s design, this team is developing a new integrated goggle system with object detection for distance awareness, clearer vision in low-visibility conditions, and a more comfortable fit for skiers who wear prescription glasses.
Meet the PROVUU Team
Team 2: Crested Butte Heritage Museum Display
This capstone group is designing a custom display system that allows the Crested Butte Heritage Museum to safely preserve and showcase its collection of historic mining maps in a more engaging, accessible, and space-efficient way.
Meet the CB Heritage Museum Team
Team 3: Gunnison Valley Observatory
This capstone project is upgrading the 30-inch telescope with a redesigned secondary mirror support and control system that improves alignment precision, increases structural stability, and replaces legacy software with a modern C++ codebase.
Meet the Gunnison Observatory Team
Team 4: BAJA
The SAE BAJA team’s goal is to design and fabricate a BAJA car from scratch. Because the team is competing this year, the immediate focus is to build a rule-compliant chassis and a simple, compact drivetrain system. The drivetrain will be well integrated into the overall design to allow for incremental upgrades in future years, avoiding the need for a complete rebuild next year.
Meet the BAJA Team
Team 5: Wind Tunnel
The objective of the project is to modify, fabricate, and validate a fully functional subsonic wind tunnel that addresses the current Wind Tunnel limitations while enabling accurate and repeatable testing. The wind tunnel must be modified to achieve structural stability, airflow uniformity, modularity for sensors, and accurate measurement capabilities.
Meet the Wind Tunnel Team
Team 6: Western Mountain Rescue Truck System
The truck management team is tasked with designing a durable, repairable, and cost-effective truck-bed organization system aimed at reducing mission preparation time at the trailhead by 30%, from ten minutes to seven, while improving accessibility, safety, and long-term usability.
Meet the Western Mountain Rescue Truck System Team
Team 7: Western Mountain Rescue Litter System
The goal of this project is to design, prototype, and validate a single-wheel, quick-connect attachment for a standard rescue litter. The system integrates three subsystems: Wheel System, Clamp System and Structural Brake Assembly.
