Western to host annual Firemen’s Concerts

The Department of Music at Western Colorado University will host the 68th Annual Firemen’s Concerts over the course of two weeks. The first set of shows will take place on Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 29 at 2 p.m. The second set are scheduled for March 5 at 7:30 p.m. and March 7 at 2 p.m. All performances take place in Quigley’s Kincaid Music Hall.

The Western Symphonic Band will perform on Feb. 27 under the direction of Steven Siegel, DMA. The concert on Feb. 29 will feature a band comprised of high school students from 16 schools throughout the state as well as the Colorado Brass Band. This event will feature guest conductor Scott Rikkers, M.M., and international trumpet soloist Vince DiMartino.

Western’s Chamber Singers, Concert Choir and student soloists led by Heather Roberson, DMA, will perform on March 5. The concert on March 7 will feature the Treble Honor Choir and Mixed Honor Choir directed by guest conductors Abby Musgrove, DMA, and Scott Glysson, DMA. This show will also feature a directors’ choir conducted by Jessica Hazard Hanley.

These events are family-friendly and open to the public. While the events are free, attendees are encouraged to give a donation that will benefit the Gunnison Volunteer Fire Department.
