Western Colorado University is implementing its newly adopted Strategic Resources Allocation (SRA). The study is the culmination of almost two years of work by dozens of faculty and staff at Western.
In July 2019, the Western administration presented to the Board of Trustees the concept of a SRA study which would assess all of Western’s programs — administrative, student service and academic — against an established set of criteria as a means for aligning Western’s resources with our institutional strategic plan. It is consistent with our mission: to foster intellectual and personal growth in our students through sciences, liberal arts and professional programs.
The guiding principles for the campus-wide study were that it be inclusive, transparent, comprehensive, consistent, demand-driven, forward thinking and based upon campus established criteria. While the study includes some modest reductions, there are investments into programs which we believe will yield dividends for years to come. Meanwhile, we will continue to be a strong liberal arts university with an abundance of offerings supporting these fields.
