The American Football Coaches Association – Division II Coaches’ Poll ranked Western Colorado University’s football team No. 24 for the week of Oct. 11, 2021. The Mountaineers 5-1 start to the season and a big win over New Mexico Highlands contributed to the ranking.
This is the first time since the poll was created in 2000 that Western has been ranked in the top 25.
Western’s Director of Athletics, Miles Van Hee told GoMountaineers.com,
“What an exciting time for Mountaineer football, Western and the Gunnison community! We’re super proud of our student athletes and our coaching staff in elevating Western football to this level. It’s been an incredibly fun season and it’s so great to see the home stands full of fans cheering on the Mountaineers. The support from our community and our student body is simply amazing.”
With this new accolade comes an exciting season for the Mountaineers. After multiple wins, the Western football team is in a great position to compete this year.
