Colorado Ballet comes to Western

The Colorado Ballet Studio Company will perform at Western’s Taylor Auditorium on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. This is a free event that is open to the public. Community members are encouraged to attend.

The performance is a part of the Ballet’s Page to Stage Program, which connects dancers to local communities who might not have regular exposure to professional dance acts. Audience members will be treated to a brief excerpt from one of the 2019-2020 Colorado Ballet’s productions: “Don Quixote,” “The Nutcracker” or “Peter Pan.” There will also be the chance to engage in conversation with the dancers on topics ranging from storytelling in dance to pointe shoe etiquette.

The Company is coming to Gunnison to help celebrate the 30th anniversary of Western’s Honors Program. The Honors Program is a dynamic, multidisciplinary academic cohort that encourages intellectual curiosity and adventure among its scholars across an array of academic fields.

The Honors Program is the primary campus sponsor for this event, though they have received financial support from the Art, Education, Music, and Communication Arts, Languages & Literature (CALL) Departments at Western. They have also partnered with Gunnison Elementary School, Gunnison Middle School and Gunnison High School to bring students to Western’s campus to experience the performance.

The show has an approximate run time of 45 minutes.
