Chávez named Dean of Graduate Studies, Associate VP of Academic Affairs

Chávez has directed the Sustainable & Resilient Communities track of the Master in Environmental Management program since his arrival at Western in 2014. A global leader in community development with a renowned expertise in community-based energy, material and greenhouse gas emissions accounting, he is eager to bring his multi-disciplinary, multi-sector professional and program development experiences to his new role at Western.

“Western’s School of Graduate Studies is entering an exciting era,” said Western Vice President for Academic Affairs Bill Niemi. “With five programs, we have an Outdoor Industry MBA coming online this fall. At the start of fall 2017, our five graduate programs served close to 350 students, representing nearly 15 percent of the student body at Western.”

Chávez holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, a Master of Business Administration and a Doctor of Philosophy in Civil & Environmental Engineering.

“I am humbled by the opportunity of merging 18-plus years of corporate, community development and international experience to Western in this important leadership role,” Chávez said. “Our School of Graduate Studies will continue to develop a menu of dynamic and cutting-edge graduate education offerings for students.”
