Our Unique Program

Our program is a supportive literary home designed for those ready to lead in the business of books through a unique, 14-month intensive path. We distinguish ourselves by exploring the intersection of artistic craft and entrepreneurial reality.

World-Class Leadership: You will learn the art and business of publishing under the direction of Kevin J. Anderson—bestselling Dune author and Director of WordFire Press—and Allyson Longueira. Their expertise provides an unparalleled bridge between creative vision and global commercial success.
• Entrepreneurial Agency: We help you master both traditional and indie publishing models, providing the tools to market your own work or start your own publishing company to bring overlooked voices to the world.
Hands-On Industry Results: This is an immersive journey where you help create books that are actually released by a commercial publisher, giving you the confidence to join a major house or launch an independent press.
A Deep Industry Dive: We offer a comprehensive look at the modern industry, including design, editing, production, and marketing.
Built for Professionals: Our low-residency model blends live virtual classes with direct industry experience, ensuring your studies fit within your existing professional life.

A Path of Practical Experience

Our low-residency model is designed to fit your life while providing deep, hands-on immersion into the industry. Over 14 months, you will move from foundational learning to a public celebration of your work.

Your 14-Month Journey
The Summer Intensive: Your experience begins with a one-week residency on our campus in Gunnison, Colorado. During this time, you will learn the basics of the industry and briefly intern with a small commercial publisher to gain immediate, real-world insight.
Flexible Online Learning: In the fall and spring, you will take two online courses each semester. These courses provide an equal focus on traditional and independent publishing, covering everything from contract analysis and submission soliciting to page design and copyediting.
A Professional Capstone: In your second summer, you will complete a capstone project. You’ll demonstrate your growth by preparing printing masters for an anthology and marketing your finished books.
The Grand Finale: Your journey culminates in a book-signing event leading up to your graduation, where you’ll present your finished work to the community.

Hands-on Mentorship
Throughout the program, you are never alone. You will receive critical mentorship from industry professionals, helping you foster a profound knowledge of editing, designing, and producing original and reprint books. By the end of the year, you will be prepared to lead in the industry or launch your own independent press.

I went from knowing nothing about the publishing industry to starting my own publishing company within six months of being in the program. Since graduating in 2022, I have published over 10 books with my publishing company, Bow’s Bookshelf.
