Work-study is a great way to gain work experience and earn money while going to school. At Western, we offer three types of work-study positions in departments across campus. Whether you qualify through financial aid or want to work through an institutional opportunity, there’s a position that fits your goals.

Work-Study is on-campus student work positions through the following programs:

  • Federal Work-Study: Funded by the federal government and based on financial need.
  • State Work-Study: Funded by the state of Colorado and also need-based.
  • Institutional Work-Study: Funded by Western and open to all students, regardless of financial need.

All positions offer:

  • Flexible scheduling around your classes
  • Opportunities in a variety of departments and roles
  • A chance to gain hands-on experience and build your resume

To qualify for federal or state work-study:

  1. Submit your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as early as possible.
  2. Indicate your interest in work-study on the FAFSA.
  3. Meet financial need criteria as determined by your FAFSA.

If you’re not eligible for federal or state work-study, you may still qualify for institutional work-study, open to all Western students.

Opportunities exist in areas like academic departments, campus recreation, student services, and more

  • Most positions start at the Colorado minimum wage
  • You can work up to 20 hours per week while school is in session

  2. Watch your Western email—you’ll be notified if you’re eligible
  3. Search and apply for jobs on Handshake, Western’s student job board through Career Services
  4. Get hired and start earning!
