Welcome to Western Colorado University’s Mountain Biking Camp tailored for high school-aged athletes with a passion for mountain biking and improving their craft of mountain biking. Our camp promises an unforgettable designed to elevate both your skills and performance in a fun atmosphere. Join us this June or July to embark on an exploration of the breathtaking trails around Gunnison and Crested Butte while delving deeper into the exhilarating world of mountain biking.

Camp Details

Who: High School students aged 14-18 years old looking to raise their level in mountain biking

What: Six days and five nights of MTB skills and adventures.

Where: Western Colorado University, Gunnison, Colorado.

    • Students will stay on the campus of Western Colorado University
    • Three meals a day will be provided by the cafeteria services on campus.

When: June 22-27; July 6-11

Cost: $1099

Camp Schedule

  • Introduction to the camp, meet and greet fellow participants and coaches.
  • Safety briefing and orientation on basic mountain biking techniques.
  • Easy skill and trail ride to assess athlete levels.
  • Ride nutrition presentation

  • Progressive training sessions focusing on essential biking skills: braking, cornering, balance, and body positioning.
  • Instruction on bike maintenance and trail etiquette.
  • Group rides on beginner to intermediate trails.
  • Mental Training presentation

  • Guided trail rides exploring scenic routes, putting learned skills into practice.
  • Lunch break amidst nature followed by team-building activities.
  • Goal Setting Presentation
  • Tour of the University including the High-Altitude Exercise Science Laboratory

  • Full-day excursion to a nearby trail network challenging terrain.
  • Supervised riding on various trails, including technical descents and uphill climbs.
  • Opportunities to athletes to put in a race effort and be evaluated by coaches

  • Review and refinement of skills learned throughout the week.
  • Fun activities such as bike relay races, obstacle courses, or bike-themed games.
  • Campfire gathering with storytelling and reflection on the week’s experiences.

  • Bike Olympics
  • Closing ceremony with certificates of completion and awards
  • Farewell lunch and group photo session.

Gravity Camp Details

This camp is tailored for intermediate to expert level athletes ready to develop their technical skills, perfect their line choice, and master the art of racing gravity-focused events.

Who: High School students aged 14-18 years old looking to raise their level in mountain biking

What: Six days and five nights of MTB skills and adventures.

Where: Western Colorado University, Gunnison, Colorado.

    • Students will stay on the campus of Western Colorado University
    • Three meals a day will be provided by the cafeteria services on campus.

When: July 13-18

Cost: $1299

Additional Details:

  • This camp is intended for intermediate to advanced riders focusing on their race craft. We will discuss and practice: Nutrition, Warmups, Line Choices, skill development, Mental preparation, Strength Training, etc.
  • Our suggested bike is an Enduro bike with at least 150mm front and rear travel. There is too much riding and skills for a DH bike, however, you can bring a DH bike for the two days at Crested Butte Bike Park.

Gravity Camp Schedule

  • Introduction to the camp, meet and greet fellow participants and coaches
  • Safety briefing and orientation on basic mountain biking techniques
  • Skill and trail ride to assess athlete levels
  • Ride nutrition presentation

  • Progressive training sessions focusing on essential biking skills: braking, cornering, balance, and body positioning
  • Instruction on Strength Training
  • Evening Jump skill session
  • Mental Training presentation

  • We head to Crested Butte Bike Park to work proper warmups, line choices, and to get to know the trails
  • Lunch break amidst nature
  • Visualization Practice
  • Evening Bike games

  • Half Day excursion to Raft the local river and rest the body and mind from the bike
  • Evening Timed Runs at local trail network
  • Bike wash and maintenance for Day 5

  • Review and refinement of skills learned throughout the week
  • Timed Runs and optional race effort run to be evaluated by coaches
  • Dinner gathering with storytelling and reflection on the week’s experiences

  • Final ride on some local single track
  • Closing ceremony with certificates of completion
  • Farewell group photo session

Information to Know

Professional and Certified Coaches

Room and Board provided for all participants

Our camp is hosted by Western Colorado University. All athletes will stay on campus and 3 meals a day will be provided.

What to Bring

Once you sign up, you will be emailed a Camp Handbook that includes a list of items we suggest you bring. If you have questions, reach out to us any time.

Travel to Gunnison, Colorado

Gunnison Colorado is an easy 4hr drive from all major cities in Colorado (Denver, Colorado Spring, Grand Junction, Durango, etc…)

We recommend you arrive by 1pm on the day the camp begins. If you are flying to our camp, we provide transport from the Gunnison/Crested Butte airport (GUC) to Western’s campus.

The conclusion of the camp will be on a Friday at 12pm. If you fly out on this day, we provide transportation back to the airport.

Bike Transport and Assembly

You will be responsible for assembling and packing your bike. We will have tools, a stand, and will be present to assist you.

Camp Terms

Athletes can pay the camp in full amount upon registration or you can pay increments with the full amount due by May 31, 2025.

Cancellation and General Policies

If you must cancel for any reason, your registration fees depending on the date of your cancellation may qualify for a refund. Exceptions to this policy will not be made for any reason, including weather or personal emergencies.

  • 120-61 days prior. Cancellation fee of 10% of original camp price.
  • 60-30 days prior: Cancellation Fee of 50% of original camp price
  • 0-30 days prior: Cancellation Fee of 100% of original camp price
  • There are no discounts, refunds or exchanges associated with an Athlete skipping or missing any portion of a camp including, without limitation, meals, lectures or rides.
  • Western Colorado University reserves the right to cancel a camp at any time. In this event, Athletes will be issued a full refund for the camp registration fee. Western Colorado University is not responsible for expenses associated with planning the Athlete’s trip including, without limitation, airfare, lodging, meals, transportation, etc., (collectively “Athlete Expenses”) to attend any camp.
  • Camp will be conducted based on the schedule posted prior to the camp, but Western Colorado University reserves the right to modify the camp schedule based on, without limitation, weather and the number or skill level of Athletes in attendance.
