Find your purpose protecting life on earth.

Water Studies offers an interdisciplinary approach to understanding one of the world’s most essential resources. By exploring the science, policy, history, and economics of water, you’ll gain a broad perspective on how aquatic systems function and how water is managed and protected. Through hands-on learning and cross-disciplinary coursework, you’ll develop the knowledge and skills needed to address complex water challenges and pursue careers in water science, conservation, and policy.

The Water Studies emphasis provides an in-depth, interdisciplinary exploration of water systems. Students complete an independent project—such as an internship, research assistantship, or independent study—focused on a water-related topic of their choice.

The Water Studies Certificate allows students from any major to gain interdisciplinary knowledge in water science and policy while building skills that support careers in water management, conservation, and environmental policy.

Water Studies Requirements

Emphasis
Certificate

A major emphasis dives deeper into a specific interest within your major. It allows you to focus on a particular area of study, replacing the need for a separate minor. By tailoring your coursework, a major emphasis equips you with specialized knowledge and skills to better prepare you for career opportunities or advanced studies in your chosen field.

A certificate is a shorter program focusing on a specific field of expertise rather than an entire course of study. It does not result in a degree, but it can be completed alongside your major or as a stand-alone credential. Certificates are a great way to enhance your knowledge, strengthen your resume, and gain practical experience in a particular field.
