Mountain Sports Welcomes Alpine Coach

Trevor Buongiorno Ski Racing Crested Butte

Western Colorado University’s Mountain Sports program is proud to announce that Trevor Buongiorno has joined its coaching staff as Head Alpine Ski Coach. Trevor brings a wealth of experience as an athlete and coach, and a deep connection to the Gunnison Valley and Western.

Trevor grew up skiing in California and competed for the Mammoth Mountain FIS Program in high school. He came to Western to study Mathematics and race Alpine with the Mountain Sports program, where he quickly fell in love with Gunnison and chose to make the valley his permanent home. He later earned his Outdoor MBA from Western, strengthening his ties to the university and mountain sports community.

Before returning to Western as a coach, Trevor spent three seasons with Crested Butte Mountain Sports. There, he worked with a wide range of athletes and developed a strong reputation for his dedication, technical expertise, and ability to help athletes reach their full potential.

Today, Trevor channels that experience into coaching collegiate athletes at Western. He is passionate about fostering athletic and personal growth, inspiring the next generation of skiers to push their limits and embrace the challenges of competitive Alpine racing.

To ensure a smooth transition in program leadership, previous Head Coach Andrew Bristow will remain with the team as an assistant coach this season. His continued presence provides valuable continuity for the athletes and the program as a whole.

“Trevor is a tremendous addition to our Alpine staff,” said Kevin Geisen, Director of Mountain Sports. “His background as a racer at Western, his coaching experience in Crested Butte, and his strong ties to this community make him an ideal mentor for our student-athletes.”
