Earn your K-12 Licensure while pursuing an MA in Education.

For students seeking a K-12 Licensure to teach in schools and a Master of Arts in Education, we offer an all-encompassing program that allows you to achieve both in three years.

During the licensure prep year, all courses are completed online in the fall and spring semesters in conjunction with student teaching. Students complete 24 hours per week in a mentor teacher’s classroom throughout the school year, culminating with 5 weeks of full-time teaching near the end of spring.

Obtaining a Colorado teacher’s license requires completing a Bachelor’s degree. If you have taken some college-level courses and are perhaps working as a paraprofessional, Western’s Adult Degree Completion program can provide you with the courses and residency training you need to apply for your initial license.

Licensures are issued by the Colorado Department of Education. While Western’s curricula are designed to prepare students for licensure exams after their first two semesters, successful licensure is ultimately determined by the CDE and cannot be guaranteed.

Master's Degree

A master’s degree is an advanced qualification earned after completing a bachelor’s degree. It focuses on a specific area of study and provides specialized knowledge and skills. This differs from a concentration, which is a more focused area within the master’s program. Your concentration determines the specialized courses you take, shaping your expertise in a particular field. To complete a master’s degree, students must fulfill core coursework, elective requirements, and often a final project, thesis, or practicum.
