The Intellectual Property Law Certificate is designed for students who are interested in learning about the legal aspects of intellectual property. The program provides students with a foundational knowledge of business law and business ethics, coupled with a more advanced understanding of topics such as trademarks, copyrights, patents, and trade secrets. In this program available to both degree and non-degree-seeking students, you’ll take lower divisions courses that cover essential concepts in business law and ethics, providing you with a solid understanding of the legal frameworks and ethical considerations in the business world. The program’s upper division requirements will focus specifically on intellectual property law and its practical applications where you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the legal and practical considerations related to obtaining and protecting intellectual property rights.

Intellectual Property Requirements

A certificate is a shorter program focusing on a specific field of expertise rather than an entire course of study. It does not result in a degree, but it can be completed alongside your major or as a stand-alone credential. Certificates are a great way to enhance your knowledge, strengthen your resume, and gain practical experience in a particular field.
