Biography

How did you discover Western?
I am a 2nd generation Western graduate. My parents actually met at Western in the 1950’s while my mom was earning a degree in Education and my father was pursuing his bachelor’s in business administration. Western became my first choice for college and I fell in love with the Gunnison valley. Upon graduation, I made Gunnison my home and started my business ventures.

What are some of the highlights of your career?

I have had a vast and varied experience in business and community leadership in the Gunnison Valley. At 22 years old, I purchased my first business, a floral shop. This began a 35-year run of entrepreneurship for me. The floral business was expanded to include landscaping and a greenhouse and eventually a second location up valley in Crested Butte. Along with my husband, we started, operated and grew the longest independently owned (1994-2021) internet provider business on the western slope of Colorado. Additionally, I served twice on the city council in Gunnison and was elected for 3 terms as Gunnison County commissioner.

What excites you most about your field?

There is always a new challenge.

What is your favorite thing about the Gunnison Valley?

The people. The valley is beautiful like no other. I enjoy hiking, rafting, golfing, gardening and just sitting by the river. However, it is the people that call Gunnison home that keeps me here and grounded.
