Mr. Jake

JMC Overnight/Expedition Camp Lead Instructor

Biography

Howdy everybody! My name is Jacob Wade, but you can call me Mr. Jake. I recently graduated from Western with a degree in Business and have been working in the outdoor industry for over 6 years. I began working with kids as a junior mountain bike coach for GBX; After that, I was a teacher at Jefferson County Schools Outdoor Lab as a full-time overnight intern. After my first year of college, I taught sailing at overnight camp in upstate NY. While attending Western, I worked at Wilderness Pursuits as overnight backcountry trip guide, taking students to ice climb, raft, and more. This led to me obtain certifications in Wilderness Medicine, Swiftwater Rescue, Avalanche, and others! Later, I became the coordinator of the Wilderness Based Orientation Program for Wilderness Pursuits, managing trips and taking the JMC kids climbing in the summer!

Teaching and getting kids outside is something I have always loved doing, because without my mentors, I would not have my love of the outdoors. Giving kids the opportunity to find their place outdoors fosters a lifelong connection to the world as well as to others, building community and stewardship.

Originally from Golden CO, I gained my appreciation for the outdoors from a young age, attending Outdoor Lab, and mountain biking competitively. I enjoy the backcountry by skiing, trekking, climbing, and white-water rafting. I’m always ready to get out there and am super excited for this summer!
