Biography

Madeline Shugert is a saxophonist, woodwind specialist, and educator based in Crested Butte, Colorado. A versatile performer and educator, she draws on a rich background in classical music and a passion for jazz and American roots music.
Madeline holds a Master of Music in Saxophone Performance from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and dual Bachelor of Music degrees in Performance and Music Education from the University of Colorado. Her principal instructors include Dr. Otis Murphy and Mr. Tom Myer. Madeline has performed in master classes in the U.S. and Europe for internationally renowned artists Claude Delangle, Arno Bornkamp, and Masato Kumoi.
From 2016 to 2023, Madeline taught woodwinds, band, jazz ensemble, and general music at Wellington College International School and at Shanghai United International School, gaining valuable experience in cross-cultural collaboration and international music education.
In addition to her work as a woodwind specialist, Madeline performs banjo and vocals in an old-time and bluegrass duo. Having grown up in Colorado, she is rooted in a love of music and the mountains and is grateful to teach and perform in a community that values both.
