The Western Colorado University Mountain Bike Team opened its fall collegiate season with an exciting weekend of racing at Powderhorn Ski Resort, the first stop of the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Cycling Conference. Riders competed in a full slate of events including Dual Slalom, Cross Country, Short Track, and the resort’s iconic Pinball Downhill course.
The Mountaineers came out strong, earning six podium finishes across the weekend. Senior Brooks Hudson highlighted the team’s efforts with a 3rd place finish in Dual Slalom and a 2nd place in Downhill. First-year riders also made their presence felt, as Josiah Horning, Nico Cicora, and Coleman Renfro all found themselves on the podium in their collegiate racing debuts.
This opening race also served as an important preview for the USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships, which will return to Powderhorn in mid-October.
Next, the Mountaineers head home to host the Crested Butte Mountain Resort race on September 13–14. The event will feature the thrilling Captain Jack’s Downhill along with challenging XC and Short Track courses at the mountain’s base.
Come out and cheer on your Mountaineers as they continue their push toward another standout season!
