Accounting Club

Western Accounting Club (WAC) Inspires group members to develop new skills, network with peers, provide CPA preparation, and educate the broader campus community on financial literacy.

Amigos

The Amigos Club at Western Colorado University promotes diversity, cultural awareness, and opportunities for students, staff, and faculty to connect, celebrate Latin and Hispanic heritage, and foster understanding and support for Latin and Hispanic culture.  

Anthropology Club

Anthropology Club

The Anthropology Club is for people who think humans are fascinating. We aim to share our passion for anthropology and all of its facets- archaeology, culture, linguistics, and biology, with the student body. We also love reaching out to the community to share our own archaeological history in the Valley.

APIC – Asian Pacific Islander Club

APIC promotes awareness surrounding Asian and Pacific Islander culture and works to educate ourselves, our peers, and the wider community to obtain unity through diversity and create a warm and welcoming environment for all.

Baseball

The Baseball Team is one of the longest-running teams on Western’s campus. In 2010, the team was ranked eighth in the U.S. and went to the World Series in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. While spring may arrive late in Gunnison, our players make the most of it to play. The team is open to all skill levels and competes in NCBA Division II, District VIII.

The Boxing Club has been a part of Western for over 50 years! Open to all ability and skill levels, the team welcomes everyone from beginners to experienced athletes. Some members have even gone on to secure national titles in the United States Intercollegiate Boxing Association (USIBA).

BSA – Black Student Alliance

The Black Student Alliance educates and promotes cultural awareness, highlighting the history, struggles, and achievements of Black culture. It fosters unity, diversity, and inclusivity on campus while emphasizing the importance of cultural education and student involvement.

Chemistry club is for anyone who enjoys the world of math and science. We put on magic show second semester that draws lots of attention. Field trips, fundraising, dinners, and much more happens!

This student-run subcommittee of student government meets to allocate tuition fee funding for arts organizations on campus. They meet monthly to promote events, share ideas for enhancing the presence of the Arts at Western, and vote on supplemental bill funding for special projects.

The Figure Skating Club at Western welcomes skaters of all skill levels to practice, grow, and enjoy the sport. Members train regularly and have the chance to showcase their talents in an annual performance. Open to all gender identities, the club is always excited to welcome new members.

Geology Club

Geology Club

The Geology Club aims to provide student members with an opportunity to enhance and expand their knowledge of the geological sciences outside the classroom. The Geology Club promotes geology by building a peer community for its members through field trips, volunteer work, community outreach, and club social events.

History League

History League

History League is a club for those with an interest in the past. We offer historic tours of Gunnison and campus, have game nights with historical games like Axis and Allies and Risk, watch historical movies like Monty Python and the Holy Grail, discuss and debate interesting historical topics, and participate.

KWSB 91.1 FM

KWSB 91.1 FM is Western Colorado University’s student-run radio station, broadcasting since 1968. It offers students hands-on experience in radio production, programming, and management. With a diverse range of music, talk shows, and campus news, KWSB serves both the university and Gunnison community as a creative and energetic media outlet.

Men’s Basketball

The Men’s Club Basketball team at Western is a competitive program that travels to face other club teams across Colorado and neighboring states. Open to students of all skill levels, the team welcomes those looking to sharpen their skills, compete, and be part of a supportive basketball community.

Men’s Hockey

The Men’s Club Ice Hockey Team is an ACHA D3 competitive hockey program. The team plays between 18 and 24 games per year. While not required, prior playing experience is a plus. The team prides itself on community engagement, allowing student-athletes to integrate with the local hockey community and give back to the organizations that support Mountaineers Hockey.

Men’s Lacrosse

The Men’s Lacrosse Club competes in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference of the MCLA. Since restarting in 2021, the Club has become stable and competitive staple of the Club Sports Organization at Western. Each year brings new and exciting growth. The team encourages athletes of all skill levels to reach out and learn more.

Mountaineer Media offers students hands-on experience in media production, including film and audio projects. Members collaborate on creative storytelling, gain technical skills, and contribute to campus media initiatives. The club fosters a supportive environment for students to explore and develop their media interests.

MWB builds a better local and global community through engineering and humanitarian projects that empower communities to meet their basic needs and develop student and community leaders. We aim to broaden students’ views and enhance their abilities through real-world projects.

Music Ensembles

Music Ensembles at Western are open to students of any major and community members. You can even earn a scholarship to participate! Contact the ensemble’s director or department chair for more information. These groups are for experienced musicians and may require a placement audition.

The mission of the Organics Guild is to provide students with experiential learning through regenerative gardening practices. We promote student autonomy while cultivating knowledge about resilient food systems in cold climates. We aim to implement food sovereignty practices and help address food insecurity in Gunnison by supplying locally produced food to Western students.

Polynesian Chant and Dance

The Polynesian Dance & Chant Club looks to share and educate ourselves, fellow student peers, and the community cultural Pacific Islander and Polynesian dances through dance lessons and meetings. By learning the cultural values and meanings of various dances, we stand to build an inclusive environment and establish connections through movement and expression. It is important to stand for diversity by assisting students in academic, cultural, and personal development and to promote cultural literacy through physical means of dancing and performance.

With a history that spans more than 35 years, The Men’s Rugby Team is the oldest and most venerable Intercollegiate Club Sport at Western. Men’s Rugby is committed to upholding a tradition of excellence, dedication, and fun. They compete in the Small College Division under National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) in the High Peaks Collegiate Rugby Conference.

The Co-Rec Soccer Team at Western is an active club that competes during a ten-week fall season. With year-round opportunities to play, the team welcomes participants each semester and is always excited to welcome new members.

In BAJA SAE, students are tasked with designing and building a single-seat, all-terrain sporting vehicle as a prototype for a reliable, maintainable, ergonomic, and economical production vehicle that serves a recreational user market. This provides hands-on experience in engineering, teamwork, and innovation.

Top O’ The World is Western Colorado University’s independent student newspaper. Recently revived, it gives students real-world journalism experience by covering campus news, opinions, and community issues. The publication has been recognized for its role in revitalizing local journalism and continues to grow under dedicated student leadership and faculty mentorship.

Western Theatre Company

Being a part of the student-run Western Theatre Company, you develop hands-on skills in acting, directing, playwriting, design, stage management, and technical production.

With four mainstage productions each year, as well as offerings like the 24-Hour Play Festival, the WTC Improv Troupe, and a Student-Directed One-Act Series, every participant finds a role to shape and a story to tell.

Western’s Wildlife Society connects students who are passionate about wildlife biology, ecology, and conservation. Members gain hands-on experience through field trips, research projects, and community outreach while building professional skills and networks in wildlife management and environmental science.

Whitewater Club

Whitewater Club

Western White Water Club connects students interested in rafting and kayaking, organizing trips, service projects, and film nights. This club is open to everyone, from “never-ever” first-timers to class V boaters. The club runs one trip outside of the Gunnison Valley each fall semester, is a regular favorite in the homecoming parade, takes part in service projects, and hosts film nights in the off-season.

The Women’s Club Hockey Team at Western welcomes players of all skill levels, from seasoned athletes to those new to the sport. Always looking for new members, the team provides a supportive environment to learn, grow, and compete. Don’t have gear? No problem — the team has extra equipment available for new players.

Women’s Volleyball aims to promote healthy lifestyles in those who are passionate about the sport and to compete against other universities. Club Volleyball competes as a part of the NCVF and the Mountain West Volleyball Conference. The team is always consistently looking for more participants.

Originally focused on spoken word, it has evolved to include fiction and poetry, hosting open mic nights and performances that encourage student expression and collaboration.
