Dean's List

  • Students who have attained a grade-point average of 3.70 during a semester, while carrying a full course.

Academic Good Standing

  • You must maintain a cumulative GPA above 2.0 to be in good standing.

Academic Alert

  • Your cumulative or semester GPA is between 2.0 and 2.29.
  • This is an early warning—check in with your academic advisor for support.
  • This status isn’t recorded on your transcript.

Academic Warning

  • Your semester GPA drops below 2.0, but your cumulative GPA stays at or above 2.0.
  • This is another early warning and doesn’t appear on your transcript.
  • Reach out to academic support resources to get back on track.

Academic Probation

Students will be place on academic probation if their CUM GPA falls between 0.00 – 1.99.

  • A student will remain on academic probation as long as their SEM GPA is a 2.0 or higher and their CUM GPA is below a 2.0.
  • If at the end of a probationary semester, students who have completed 45 + credits with a SEM & CUM GPA below a 2.0, will be suspended.
  • Students who have attempted less than 45 Western credits may remain on academic probation indefinitely.

The Academic Success Advisor will contact all students on academic probation and require them to complete the Turning Point Program (TPP) every semester they remain on probation.

Academic Suspension

Students who fail to make satisfactory progress as defined by the academic progress table will be placed on academic suspension/dismissal.

  • Students may return to Western after one academic year of suspension.

 

Academic Dismissal: If a student returns from a period of academic suspension, the student’s academic standing will be “Academic Probation”.

  • Students have the opportunity to appeal their dismissal two years after their dismissal.
  • If the student does not earn a 2.0 or higher SEM GPA during any subsequent semester; no further probationary semester is allowed, student is issued an immediate notice of academic dismissal.

CUM GPA ≥ 2.0 CUM GPA 0.00–1.99

  • Students on probation remain on probation if SEM GPA ≥ 2.0 but CUM GPA < 2.0
  • If SEM & CUM GPA are both below 2.0 at the end of the probation semester, student is suspended
CUM GPA 0.00–1.99

  • Suspension can only occur after 45 credits attempted at Western
Following suspension:

  • If SEM & CUM GPA < 2.0 at any point, results in dismissal
  • If CUM GPA ≥ 2.0 but SEM GPA < 2.0, student returns to probation
