Pathfinder Magazine

Collaborate on a professional-level magazine.

Pathfinder Magazine offers students a unique opportunity to contribute to a professional-level publication—whether you’re a writer, designer, or both. Entirely student-led, Pathfinder mirrors real industry workflows, from editorial planning and layout design to original writing and final production. Graphic Design students lead on visual direction, while writers from all majors shape the magazine’s voice with poetry, fiction, and personal essays. With scholarship opportunities available and a printed byline at the finish line, this is more than a class project—it’s a chance to build your portfolio and gain hands-on experience in publishing.

Graphic Designers

As a Graphic Design student, you’ll take the lead on layout design, type hierarchy, and visual storytelling—applying your skills to a professional-quality publication. You’ll collaborate with writers and editors, meet real deadlines, and refine your work through rounds of peer and faculty feedback. It’s a chance to build a polished portfolio, gain publishing experience, and prepare for careers or graduate study in design.

Writers

Writers contribute poetry, fiction, essays, and creative nonfiction that define Pathfinder’s unique voice. You’ll work closely with editors and fellow contributors, receive structured feedback, and revise your work to meet publication standards. This collaborative process helps you grow as a writer, strengthens your editing skills, and results in a published piece you can be proud of.

No matter your role, Pathfinder offers a team-driven experience that reflects the real-world publishing process. You’ll work alongside designers, writers, editors, and faculty mentors in an environment that values collaboration and creativity.
