Preparing Tomorrow's Nurses

The Nursing Department at Western Colorado University prepares students for professional nursing practice with a focus on clinical excellence, compassionate care, and service to rural and underserved communities. The program combines rigorous health science coursework with hands-on learning, including training in Western’s new high-fidelity simulation lab and immersive clinical placements throughout the region.

Students can choose between two program pathways. The traditional track is designed for students pursuing nursing as their primary undergraduate degree, following a structured progression of coursework and clinical experiences. The accelerated track is intended for students who already hold a bachelor’s degree in another field and want to enter nursing through a fast-paced, intensive schedule.

Both tracks offer the same high-quality instruction, clinical training, and preparation for the NCLEX-RN licensure exam, equipping graduates to provide skilled, compassionate care in a variety of healthcare settings, especially in rural communities where nurses are needed most.

Hands-On Opportunities

Areas of Study

With this community being so tight-knit, I think it will be super helpful to have those smaller class sizes so you can bounce ideas off each other or have more one-on-one time with your professor. My mom was a nurse growing up, and what drove me to pursue nursing is that caring for others is a big part of my personality. I can’t wait to learn more about how to do that correctly.
