International Transfer Students
Western Colorado University welcomes international Transfer students to apply for admission. You are considered a transfer student if you meet the following requirements :
- You are a non-resident who has or will be seeking an international student visa
- You have graduated from high school/ secondary school or received a school-leaving certificate
- You are currently taking or have taken college/ university level courses (either at a U.S. or foreign college university)
Each student’s application will be carefully reviewed for consideration. All international students seeking direct admission to Western must meet certain academic standards and submit documentation as outlined in the admission requirements below.
To ensure adequate time for processing applications and delivering the immigration and admission documents, international students are encouraged to apply no later than May 15 for the fall semester and October 15 for the spring semester.
Complete and submit Western’s Online Application for the desired term you would like to begin your studies. All requirements can be mailed or emailed at admissions@western.edu.
There is no application fee for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Submit your official university/college transcripts from all institutions attended. All documents in a language other than English must be accompanied by certified English translations of these documents. These documents must be original copies with an official signature and bear the school’s official seal or a certified copy. All transcripts for work completed outside the United States must be submitted to a NACES member credential evaluation service for a course-by-course evaluation. As a transfer student with less than 24 credit hours completed at the time of application, you are required to submit official test scores. TOEFL and IELTS are English language proficiency exams and are suggested if English is not your native language. If desired, ACT and/or SAT test scores can be used in place of TOEFL/IELTS/Duolingo.
Minimum Acceptable TOEFL scores are as follows:
- iBT: 79
- Paper Version: 500
- Computer-Based Test: 213

- IELTS score – 6
Minimum acceptable IELTS score is as follows:
- Duolingo – 105
Merit Scholarships are awarded upon acceptance and go off the student’s weighted GPA.

Western Colorado University and the U.S. Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement require that admitted students planning to enter the U.S. on an F-1 (student) visa provide proof of financial support before immigration documents (I-20) can be issued. Proof of the ability to cover the first year’s educational costs, living expenses, and other miscellaneous expenses must be made available to the University.
Western’s SEVIS Coordinator will contact you regarding required documentation for your visa application process once you are accepted to Western.
All documents in a language other than English must be accompanied by certified English translations.
Some of the documents required include:
- Affidavit of Support form (provided by SEVIS Coordinator)
- A letter of financial support and bank statement showing sufficient funds to cover the first year of study.
- A photocopy of the applicant’s passport listing official name, birth date, etc.
- If the applicant is in the U.S., a photocopy of the visa and I-94 on which the applicant entered the country.
Original documents, including bank statements, are required once the student gets to campus, copies will be accepted for initial certification.
