Latine Heritage Month

Celebrating Latine heritage and community.

Each year from September 15 to October 15, we honor Latine Heritage Month—a time to recognize the deep impact of Latine cultures on our country, state, and campus. From music and literature to politics, food, and the arts, Latine communities have helped shape the world we live in. Western proudly celebrates these contributions through campus events, storytelling, and student-led programming that highlight the vibrant cultures of countries like Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and more.

We use the term “Latine” to reflect our commitment to inclusive language and to broaden the community we gather and uplift. Whether you’re connecting with your roots or discovering new traditions, you’ll find a community here that values who you are—and celebrates where you come from.

What is Latine Heritage Month?

Latine Heritage Month, celebrated from September 15 to October 15, honors the histories, cultures, and contributions of people with roots in Latin America and the Caribbean. It’s a time to uplift the rich diversity within Latine communities—spanning different countries, identities, languages, and traditions—and to recognize the enduring influence of Latine leaders, artists, activists, and innovators in shaping our world.

At Western, this month is an opportunity to celebrate the vibrant identities of our Latine students, faculty, and staff. We reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and look toward a future built on equity, representation, and belonging.

How Can I Support?

Be present. Attend Latine Heritage Month events. Learn about the cultures and histories represented in your community. Support Latine-owned businesses, artists, and authors. Practice cultural humility, ask thoughtful questions, and listen with an open mind. Most importantly, celebrate and support Latine voices—not just this month, but every day.
