On-Campus Housing Appeals

Housing Appeal Process

If you are a current western student, please review the information below regarding housing appeals.

If you are a current student or a new student who has already submitted your housing deposit, please continue for information about the Housing Exemption Form and the Medical/Financial Housing Appeal Form.

If you have been admitted to Western but have not submitted your deposit, you may need to submit a housing appeal in order to make a decision about attending Western. If this is the case, please email reslife@western.edu with your name, student ID#, brief description of your appeal, and any supporting documentation. This will initiate the appeals process and we will follow up with you shortly.

Housing Exemption Form

Deadline to appeal:

  • Fall Semester: July 15 by 5 p.m.
  • Spring Semester: Nov. 15 by 5 p.m.

Late admit appeals will be considered until the first day of classes each semester.

This appeal is for the following students:

  • Student has lived on campus for the equivalent of two full academic years at another college or university. Verification required via signed letter from previous university’s housing department stating the years that the student resided on campus.
  • Student withdraws from the University.
  • Student is married and living with partner/spouse and/or student is the primary caregiver for a child(ren) under the age of 18.
  • Student graduates.
  • Student has been honorably discharged from service in the armed forces. Verification required.
  • Student experiences the untimely death of an immediate family member.
  • Student is living with parent(s) or a legal guardian within 30 miles of campus. Verification is required via letter from parent(s) or legal guardian(s) to include cell number and physical address of home with signature from parent/guardian and a utility bill addressed to the parent/guardian.
  • Student is 21+ years of age by the first day of classes without a signed housing contract.

Medical/Financial Housing Appeal Form

Deadline to appeal:

  • Fall Semester: July 15 by 5 p.m.
  • Spring Semester: Nov. 15 by 5 p.m.

This appeal is for the following students:

  • Extenuating circumstances related to demonstrated medical need. Appeals based on medical need will be considered before or after the student has signed the Housing Lease and Contract. Alternatively, student may work with Disability Services to obtain a housing accommodation based on medical need.
  • Extenuating circumstances related to demonstrated financial need. appeals based on financial need will only be considered if the need arose after signing the Housing Lease and Contract.
