Everyone at Western Colorado University, whatever their position or experience, is an integral component of an academic community that cultivates openness, curiosity, and possibility in every aspect of teaching and learning. The Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) actively engages all faculty, staff, and administrators in collaborative initiatives designed to reimagine WCU’s educational landscape—rooted in diverse expertise and committed to continuous growth.
What We Do
The TLC hosts many events each month to bring educators together around a variety of topics, areas of interest, needs, and more. Recurring events include: Educator Spotlights, Mentorship Lunches, Drop-In Coffee and Brown-Bag Lunches, Communities of Practice, and Western Showcases.
Educators are invited to share research and/or instructional development with a multidisciplinary audience in a formal academic setting such as a Western Showcase, to contribute to a shared body of instructional knowledge through participation in events such as Educator Spotlights, and to celebrate their colleagues accomplishments in a variety of venues.
The TLC supports instructors as they develop and apply skills such as creativity, adaptability, and resilience within their teaching practice. We are your partners in generating and testing new methods to address challenges that arise in an evolving education landscape.
Educators can look to the TLC for guidance as they identify and implement instructional techniques and skills that align with current best practice. We are also here to help assess when and how ed tech supports pedagogy, and to support faculty in efforts to integrate ed tech into a classroom with purpose and confidence.
Who We Serve
The TLC is a locus of support and community for Western faculty. Our objectives directly align with the faculty-focused action steps of Goals 1 and 3 of the strategic plan.
The TLC recognizes the critical role staff plays in the successful education of Western students. We invite and welcome staff to collaborate in all TLC events and activities.
The TLC serves students indirectly by supporting those responsible for their education.
