“Western has started this transition to a school where we use our past and our privilege and connect it to what we are learning now to allow ourselves to better understand our world and ourselves.”
Patrick Tan’s double major in business administration and biology will bring him success in a medical administration or lab management career. The skills he learned in each discipline will allow him to succeed in many industries.
He knew his choice to double major in four years would be difficult, but Western’s small classes and close-knit community would help him learn more about himself and what he is good at.
“I wanted to challenge myself, and with the opportunities that Western had, I was able to get two different degrees in the typical four-year track. I wanted to have these two majors because I am very passionate about these industries and I see myself working in both at some point in the future,” he said.
Patrick enjoyed being part of the Honors Program, too, because it helped him understand the importance of education.
“Western has started this transition to a school where we use our past and our privilege and connect it to what we are learning now to allow ourselves to better understand our world and ourselves.”
Ultimately, the people and the culture at Western have helped nurture Patrick’s success throughout the years.
“People want to see each other succeed. Western facilitates a way for people to have that open conversation and to learn about other disciplines while still focusing on your own,” he said.
