“The biggest lesson I learned [at Western] was learning how to balance a busy life while getting the most out of education, employment and other pursuits.”
Max Lindsey graduated from Western in 2011 with a Politics & Government degree and a record of 100+ ski days each season. He came for the recreational pursuits but stayed for the intimate relationships he formed, including with his future wife, Kelsey.
Lindsey found community in the Mountain Sports Freeride Ski Team, and his academic interests were stoked by the Honors and Academic Leadership programs.
“The communications and interactions with my professors helped a lot. Dr. [William] Niemi and Dr. [Heather] Thiessen-Reily both were very helpful in getting me into law school,” Lindsey said, adding that he got into every law school he applied to.
After graduating from Western, Max and Kelsey moved to Lake Tahoe, California, for a year and then to Albany, New York, for Max to attend Albany Law School. They remained in the area for the first part of Max’s career.
Lindsey is now an attorney in private practice in his hometown of Washburn, Wisconsin, and looks forward to growing his practice and his family with his wife and two children.

Especially going through law school, the skills he learned at Western were essential.
“It’s so busy in the professional world that it’s easy to get bogged down with the tasks at hand. You forget to have any fun, or if you are having fun you forget to do the important stuff,” Lindsey said. “My time at Western showed me it’s possible to do both.”
