Biography

Sara is an innovative career services professional having recently served as Director of Career and Professional Development at Ripon College in Wisconsin and also bringing 14+ years of business experience as co-founder, partner and project manager of a marketing and technology firm. At Western, she looks forward to developing strategy and programming to create career-ready students along with building relationships between career services, employers, and the community through partnerships and collaborations to further the long-term success for Western students and alumni. She holds a MS in Educational Leadership from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, a BS from Marian University and is a Certified Career Services Provider (CCSP). Along with her professional experience, she has mentored middle and high school competitive robotics teams and served the last few years as a robotics tournament judge at state competitions and the World Championships.

How did you discover Western?

A former colleague who now teaches in the School of Business, Jennifer DeBoer, sent me the job posting.

What are some of the highlights of your career?

Having a micro-internship program I created receive national award nomination, developing an alumni webinar series on leadership and professional development, receiving the President’ s award from the Wisconsin Association of Colleges and Employers, contributing to an AASCU report on Integrating Career Advising for Equitable Student Success, leading a year-long RFP process for a 17 school career services software collaborative purchase and co-founding a marketing/technology company.

What most excites you about your field?

The growth of opportunities for students beyond the traditional internship such as micro-internships and remote or hybrid projects that can open up pathways for students earlier in their college career and allow them to develop those valuable skills sought by employers.
