How did you discover Western?
A friend sent an email about a position as the inaugural Dean of the School of Business. I came to campus for an interview and saw the opportunity to help elevate the School of Business to new heights.
What are some of the highlights of your career?
Western has a very entrepreneurial culture which allows faculty and administration to develop creative ideas. While at Western, I created the Office of Career Success to help students find their dream job. I helped create the first of its kind in the U.S.–an Outdoor Industry MBA program–and brought Governor Hickenlooper to campus to discuss the outdoor industry and our MBA program. The School of Business created the Borick Scholars Weekend to help attract high achieving students to our campus with great success. Additionally, we have dramatically increased the number of students studying abroad with locations including Iceland, Costa Rica, Switzerland and the UK. I recently had a publication with Dr. Jim Harriss: “Is an Irrevocable Trust Really Irrevocable? Not Anymore–Decanting,” Journal of Applied Financial Research.
What most excites you about your field?
As the Dean of the School of Business, I have an opportunity to have a significant impact on helping students achieve their goals. I relish the opportunity to be able to create new programs and develop new opportunities for students.
What is your favorite thing about the Gunnison Valley?
I really enjoy the entrepreneurial spirit of the people in the valley as well as being in a supportive community. Of course, I enjoy living in an environment that looks like something off of a postcard.
