Biography

How did you discover Western?

After I graduated high school in Denver I was looking for a way to spend a lot of time snowboarding. Fortunately I was also being pushed to continue going to school. Western was the perfect blend of school and adventure in the mountains.

What are some of the highlights of your career?

The biggest highlight of my career is getting to return to Western as a faculty member. Getting to work with the people who helped me succeed and enjoy my time as a student here has been an awesome experience.

What most excites you about your field?

Math gets me pumped up. I love solving problems and being able to prove a solution is correct. I really like that math can sometimes feel like meaningless little brain teasers, but it is also the tool we use describe the universe, from how planets and galaxies interact in the cosmos, to why certain musical notes sound good when they are played together, to a methodical way to solve a Rubik’s cube. There is an endless well of problems to consider if you are interested in math. I also really enjoy sharing math with others and helping students overcome their difficulties and discover how interesting and fun math can be.

What is your favorite thing about the Gunnison Valley?

You have world class biking, climbing, fishing, etc. close enough to get to after class.
