Biography

Alex Frank is a guitarist, composer, and educator based in Kansas City. As a working guitarist, Alex currently leads a trio and quartet under his name, playing at clubs around Kansas City and holding down a near two-year residency playing his music at the Green Lady Lounge. Recently, Alex has been traveling far beyond Kansas; in the summer of 2021 and 2022, he toured France with renowned French composer/saxophonist Pierre Bertrand and the Classical Beat jazz orchestra, and arranged a new setting of music for Norwegian percussionist Terje Isungset as a part of the “Classical Beat” music festival based in Lübeck, Germany. During the summer of 2023 Alex was invited to perform his original music with his quartet at the very same festival in Travemünde Germany.

In 2022, Alex was awarded an artist grant from the Koch Cultural Trust to produce his highly anticipated debut album, “Reclaim,” featuring Matt Villinger, Jeff Harshbarger, and John Kizilarmut. The album is set to be released in November 17th, 2023.

In addition to teaching guitar at Western, Alex additionally teaches jazz guitar and improv courses, directs several combos and a beginning group guitar class at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS.
